Effective recruitment

Round Pegs in Round Holes

Even around 450 BC Hypocrites knew how important it was to know the why’s and what’s of people’s behaviour and he came up with some really interesting ideas for profiling people. Things have moved on and nowadays profiling is very sophisticated and is available live on the internet…

From a management perspective it is hugely important to get the right person in the right job, ensuring they: -

  • have the correct skills and knowledge
  • have the right attitude and interests
  • will fit in with existing members of the team
  • can communicate with other staff and customers.

Easier said than done, especially when difficult interview questions don’t work and “clever” candidates read the best selling book “Great answers to difficult interview Questions” prior to their interview!

Bearing in mind that the average the cost of hiring a £30,000 member of staff including recruitment and learning curve time can be up to £10,000, it’s crucial for people to perform straight out of the box. For this to happen it is imperative to know how they: -

  • value money and time and people,
  • feel towards change,
  • follow rules and procedures
  • perceive power and ego

All very difficult to discover and measure in an interview, so we suggest you find out before the interview, how the candidates communicate plus hidden things like what: -

  • are their key motivators
  • makes them tick
  • are their values
  • is their passion
  • creates their energy
  • are their core attitudes to life and business

With the correct assessment you’ll know more about them at the interview than they know about themselves, which will automatically remove lots of the unknowns.
