Working Mums tips

30 March 2009

When I started business coaching ten years ago, one of the first people I coached was a lady who ran a nursery and as a result we created this list of top tips for busy working mums. It will help you make best use of their time, family, friends and people that they have around them and their own positive self talk to make best use of their assets for success

After reading this tip sheet, you will:

  • have a list of actions to follow to feel better and be more effective with your time
  • be able to take implement ideas that maybe rather obvious but really do work
  • realise how important it is to have positive self talk for you and your children
  • have an understanding about what to say to other members of your family and friends
  • see how your own behaviour can change with simple actions as you grow more and more confident

Working Mum's 10 Top Tips

1. Respect yourself for everything about you..all the hard work that you do, all that you know, all the help and love that you give people, all the food that you cook, all the washing that you do, etc.

2. Ensure that everyone around you thanks and respects you for everything that you do for them

3. Realise that it is really crucial to have time for yourself and that life is not about being at the beck and call of everyone else

4. Create a support team of family, friends, other working mums, work colleagues who can act as your idea bank, support team, thanking team, shopping team, etc and you can do the same things for them

5. Make sure that your internal voice is your Number One FAN and is continuously saying great things about you OUT LOUD… the way you ironed that shirt was great, preparing the food day after day is just fantastic, keeping your sanity with all the kids AND your TV ogling partner AND working as well, is just plain super tremendous women, doing the shopping in two hours and keeping cool in the queue by reading the free magazine in the rack was just a great idea… you really are fantastic

6. Get some exercise ..walk the dog/kids/partner or join a health club or go swimming

7. Find someone else who can act as your buddy and you can be his or hers through the good and bad times, either on the phone and face to face.

8. Identify what are your main interests and passions …. relax doing them and if possible do them as your job… your job will not then be a job but your passion.

9. Make a list of all those things that need to be done around the house and niggle/annoy you because you never get round to them …. asterisk those things that someone else could do and then one by one, bit by bit get someone to do them for you whilst you relax by doing the things you love doing.

10. Identify the goals that you want to achieve in life and get a coach to help you reach them.
